Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Chittagong Hill Tracts-Challenges and Opportunities
Focuses on opportunities and challenges of rural development in southeastern Bangladesh, bordering India and Myanmar or so called Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), in accordance with the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Evaluates status and challenges over 11 aspects of SDGs, covering poverty alleviation, food security and sustainable agriculture, quality of education, gender equality, sustainable water management and sanitation, energy security, employment, economic growth, infrastructure development, ecosystems sustainability, and ensuring peace. Explicates good practice in high-value agricultural products, productive farming, enhancing rural livelihood, skills enhancement for women, agrobiodiversity protection, forest and water resources management, livestock, fisheries, agro-based micro-enterprises, watershed restoration, and tourism in terms of promoting off-farm employment. Discusses a framework for promoting growth in this region, covering key insights, integrated strategy, policy priorities, and strategic actions.
